…would be a wonderful addition to my freelance-patchwork lifestyle, so I’m trying to get the gig blogging about analog photography for The Old School Photolab. I have been shooting with film (beyond just snapshots) since 2002, and though I recently acquired an iPhone and it has admittedly quenched a need for quick-and-easy image-making, I will always be a film girl.
Since I started with my first Lomo LC-A at 15, film photography has shaped my life in surprising and far-reaching ways that continue to unfold. Starting with the global acquaintances and friends I made posting on Lomo.us as a teenager, then being a Lomography contributor in college, then a Lomography employee in grad school, and most recently serving as the interim curator at the Joseph Saxton Gallery of Photography, my little hobby/obsession has been the gift that keeps on giving.
I like to play with film. I have taken apart and re-constructed more cameras than I can count. As a professed technophile, I’m acutely aware that we must constantly be in search of new and innovative applications for this century-old technology if we want it to remain commercially viable in the coming century. I don’t want to give away too much of the milk for free, so to speak, so rest assured that I have lots to say about the past, present and future of analog photography.
So, there you have it. I’d like to do what I’ve always done (Take pictures. Write things) and just incorporate this new practical application into the mix. I can bring a much-storied, fairly-experienced, future-looking and hope above hopes humor-infused voice to the Old School PhotoLab Analog Embassy.
